Cottage Style: Coral Crochet Sweater in Style, Summer on 07/02/17 Happy, happy long weekend friends! I hope everyone is having a great Sunday. Which really feels like a Saturday, doesn’t it?! The best part of a long weekend for me is getting to compleeetely tune out from work mode, and fully focus on having fun with friends and fam. A few stress-free days of rejuvenation and reset is exactly what I needed (especially after the longest work week ever!) Canada Day, which is the national day of Canada, celebrates the 1867 signing of the Constitution Act, which united 3 separate colonies into one single dominion (I’ve heard a few jokes that Canada just wanted it’s own 4th of July, but this is a legit historical holiday!!). A la 4th of July, however, you can expect fireworks, BBQs, gatherings at your nearest lake, flag waving, and lots of people decked out in Red and White. My lovely American boyfriend and I, who is a very good sport for wearing this shirt all day!! We are currently in Muskoka, Ontario, and let me tell you, it doesn’t get more Canadian than it does up here. My family recently got a cottage on Lake Rosseau, which has been an absolute dream come true. Muskoka is hailed as the ultimate cottage country, revered for it’s beauty and history and now, tbh, boujee culture (tons of NHL star players, Hollywood actors, and other old money families from Toronto have places up here— There’s a stretch of land in the area called Billionaire’s Row, it’s kind of insane.) It’s had a huge place in my heart for as long as I can remember; I spent 10 years of my life going to over night summer camp in the area, as well as spending time at the cottages of family and friends. It really feels surreal that we now have a piece of our very own. I kind of place “cottage style” looks in a league of their own; I definitely rock more of a casual vibe while I’m up here, you can find me in tons of Roots sweatpants and tanks and denim cut offs, but I also like putting an elevated spin on things. Really, whatever is easy, casual, cute. For this trip, I packed a ton of pieces that just screamed #lakeliving to me. Lot’s of white eyelet, flowy boho print dresses, and my fave denim. As soon as I saw this crochet, lace-up, coral pink sweater, I knew it would be perfect for Muskoka night dinners on the deck, and for boating outings into town. I am beyond obsessed; it goes perfectly with white denim, jean shorts, mini skirts, leggings, really anything. It is super cozy, but still ideal for cooler summer days and nights. Currently on sale for under $70, this is definitely a bit pricier than other knits I have in my wardrobe; however, it’s great quality and clearly designed to last. There are some fabulous details on it, (the rope-like lace-up strings have a fun nautical vibe to them!) and you just can’t beat this amazing color. I love how it reads as a bright, but it’s still fairly muted in tone, which lends in its versatility. Also how cute is this little white monogrammed bandana by Oli Rose Designs?! Since I’ve been up here, I’ve worn it in my hair, around my neck, tied to my tote bags… Love how you can wear it in so many ways, and it really just brings me back to my summer camp days, which makes my heart happy and full of nostalgia 🙂 My camp was big on what were always referred to as outtrips (camping! canoes! tents! make your own fire! hang your trash in a tree ’cause bears!), and I ALWAYS had a couple of these bad boys on hand. One year I went on a 15 day canoe trip in Zec de Kipewa, way up in god-knows-where Quebec, where we never stayed on the same campsite for more than a day, carried our 90 lb cedar strip canoes and packs on our back through crazy portages… It was intense to say the least. And I always had my hair styled just like how it is here! French braids and a bandana. Never imagined I’d be opting for this trend for a non-camping, fashion blogger-y look, I must admit. Well, they do say that all trends eventually come back into style! Shop the look:
